“A Hand Up, Not A Hand Out” has long been used by the Tulia United Community Fund as its slogan/mission statement. At one time or another we have all needed a hand up in life. It could be as minute as a good coach bringing out the best in a player, a good friend, a mentor, or something more serious such as a life threatening and perhaps life changing event where the support of friends and community was needed as well as perhaps needing financial support to deal with a severe accident or illness.

October is the traditional kick-off month for the Tulia United Community Fund (TUCF) and this year is no different. Hale County State Bank is sponsoring the Tulia Chamber of Commerce “After Hours” on Tuesday evening, October 10th at 6 PM, and has graciously agreed to allow the TUCF to use this same time slot as the kickoff for the 2006 campaign. All Chamber of Commerce members and the representatives of the various TUCF entities are invited to the “After Hours” event. Entertainment for this fun evening will be provided by The Otwell Brothers.

In an effort to increase participation in the community, the board of TUCF has implemented some changes in how the campaign will be conducted. Joel Williamson, TUCF Campaign Coordinator for the 2006 fund drive stated, “We are both anxious and excited about the new changes in the campaign strategy. The ideas and concept presented have been used in other communities and greatly enhanced the outcome of this important fund raising effort. TUCF is about touching lives of those less fortunate and in need as well as enhancing the quality of life in our great community. In the next few weeks you will be contacted by workers representing the various charities workers we ask that you “do all that you can do” to help the TUCF and the lives it impacts. To make it as easy as possible for you to maximize your donation, your gift can be made via bank draft, payroll deduction, or lump sum.”

TUCF supports many entities within the county. Collectively, these organizations impact the lives of literally hundreds of lives in our community.
